But before we dive into the review, let’s know a bit about the book and read a quick blurb, shall we?

About the book – I love (fall in love synonym) you Billy Langley by Monika Jephcott Thomas.

Summary:

Twenty-year-old Netta can’t wait to leave Germany and teach in Brighton, England. It’s the height of the swinging 60s, but Netta hasn’t bargained for the prejudice she’ll receive in a country full of anti-German sentiment just (just in case meaning) twenty years after the war. She finds solace in Billy, the school caretaker, with whom she falls in love. But when she takes him back to Germany at Christmas it’s Billy’s turn to be on the receiving end of a frosty welcome.

Review of I Love You Billy Langley by Monika Jephcott Thomas.

Netta is a 20 something trained teacher in Germany. She nestles in a big home with her doctor parents and both sets of grandparents. She is set to leave the home on account of her grandparent’s grumpiness and her parent’s busy schedule. It can be seen that Netta’s home hasn’t been good ever since the family lost her sister and her parents now care lesser / make lesser time (race against time phrase) for her by busying themselves with work.

However, when she is shown the path of a teacher exchange to teach German in a Brighton school, she decides to make the move and takes up the opportunity to exchange with an English teacher. Now there is a lot more to play than just the gist I mentioned, and since my disclaimer states spoiler-free review. I shall expect everyone to go and read this beautiful book instead of me giving out the details through a review post.

Recommendations for I Love You Billy Langley

I Love You Billy Langley is certainly an interesting historical romance read set in the early 60s. Even though it’s been twenty years – you can notice the tragic scars and wounds of the war visibly peeking through Netta’s story.  I would definitely recommend this read to someone who is a fan of Victorian-era reads and historical romances. I also loved the way the book has been written by the author. And I shall definitely want to read more of Jephcott’s works in the near future.

Also, a big thank you to Faye from @authoright for providing me with this wondrous copy, I loved every bit of it. The last book I reviewed for them was The Last Leaf – which is my absolute favourite 2019 read and if you haven’t read my review yet, you should should should by clicking anywhere on this sentence.
