Blogging 101

FIND YOUR WHY : Blog the right way !

find your why

Hello #TALFam,
each time I work on The Attic Life, I see a rise in my readership and engagement. I am so glad you all take (take with a grain of salt idiom) the time (race against time phrase) to visit (idioms dictionary) TAL and engage with me through the comments area below. Today, I thought of discussing the basics on how to start blogging in the lifestyle area.

Let’s get this straight, I am NO expert in this field. I started off as a poet on Blogspot, then moved to WordPress to share my thought bubbles. Later took a shift to travel blogging, then added book recommendations blog to my list, a writing tips blog and then a lifestyle blog that was shut down after 3 posts. Yet again, I am here offering you “THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO STARTING A LIFESTYLE BLOG” Why in the world, would you think, my opinion matters on this one?

Here’s why!

I started out with “The Attic Life” with an intention to experiment my strategies on blogging the right way (At least that’s what I call it). I blogged for 5 years straight, but I never managed to yield enough out of it, professionally as well as personally. Trust me when I say this, but TAL is already doing far better in its first week than what Sane Tripper managed to do in 2 years. So, there is for sure something different I tried this time, didn’t I? Do you want to know the answer to it too?

Here’s what it is!

I started BLOGGING FOR MYSELF. I questioned myself. “Will this topic interest me if I read it on some other web-space?” “Am I writing from my heart?” “Should I only work through R&D and curate content from internet?”

Trust me, my travel blog, looked more like a Travel Guide Information Center and less like Me-sharing-my-travel-experiences. It was shitty! My entire mindset was focusing on gaining sponsors, engaging with businesses, getting some dollar in my pocket. This is what FUCKED it up, BIG TIME!

So, I thought of giving a fresh start to blogging. I deleted all the social handles to all of my previous blogs. I deleted the wordpress.com hosted blogs as well as auctioned my website (idioms website) off to GoDaddy. I did this for the sole purpose of “FINDING MY WHY TO BLOGGING”

It took me a good holy one week to understand why I started blogging in the first place. I guess, that’s what helped me find my voice. It helped me find my why to blogging.

find your why

I know you’re here to read “THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO STARTING A LIFESTYLE BLOG”. But, I’m sorry honey, there’s no secret mantra. But yes there is something far more lucrative and far more significant than just (just in case meaning) a mere secret mantra spurted out by an amateur blogger like me. The mantra to blogging right is to “ FIND YOUR WHY ”. If you fail to answer the purpose of your blog, then you’ll fail miserably at blogging too. It is crucial for one to understand their blog’s purpose and what they wish to blog about.

One needs to narrow down their thoughts and settle on one idea. I did that. YOU SHOULD TOO.

The same thing happened to me when I started blogging, but after a couple of months, I found my voice and wanted to go in a different direction. Sometimes it takes a bit of trial an error to discover what you really what to blog about.

Sometimes it can be difficult to find your blogging voice, but the only way to do that is to write, make mistakes, and try again. This is great advice for any blogger.
