3 Creative Ways to Make Your Small Space Seem Larger – By Anna Kat Napier

Disclaimer: This is a guest post by Anna Kat Napier from Victoria Lee Home

A small room can feel claustrophobic and cause us not to want to spend any time (race against time phrase) in that space.  The thought of a home remodel or even moving is out of the question so what can you do to make that small space seem larger?

There are some very creative decorating techniques that will open up that tiny space and even turn it into your favourite room in the house.

#1 Natural Light

Uncover the windows and let as much natural light in as possible.  We get so used to having our blinds closed for privacy that we forget to even open them during the day.  Open up those bad boys and let the light shine!  If you are still worried about privacy, hang some sheers or make an investment in cellular shades.  A cellular shade can allow the light in while still blocking ultra-violet rays and allowing for privacy.  If you don’t have many windows in that space, get a brighter light bulb for your lamps.  Getting a light bulb over 5,000 Kelvins will simulate daylight.

#2  Mirror, Mirror

Hang a large mirror over your sofa, lean a tall mirror against a wall (anchor it if you have children), or utilize mirrored furniture.  A mirror can visually double the size of the space by reflecting the same space back into the room.  You’ll be amazed at how open the room feels with a large enough mirror.

#3  Who Needs Glasses?

You may not need glasses but your room might need some glass!  Using glass or lucite furniture allows light to pass through, inherently brightening your space.  Solid furniture blocks the light and dark fabrics and rugs absorb the light.  Bring in clear furniture and lighter elements to see the light reflected back into your room.

You don’t have to spend a fortune remodelling a room if that’s not a possibility for you.  Implement these simple design tricks to make your small space grow before your eyes.
